Drishti

22K GOLD, NATURAL OPAL, 2025

The brooch was designed after representations of eyes painted on the four sides of the main stupa within the Swayambhunath temple complex, one of the oldest sacred sites in the Kathmandu Valley.

The site was recognised as sacred in the third century BCE, when Emperor Ashoka the Great, the third ruler of the Maurya dynasty, dedicated it to Siddhartha Gautama, today widely known as the Buddha.

Drishti is a Sanskrit term meaning sight, gaze, and also a mode of perceiving reality.
